Two women from Hong Kong learned weaving skills at private lodging Inn in Kawagoe City

Two social workers from Hong Kong learned weaving skills at Kominka Ebisuya(first certified as private lodging in Kawagoe)for six days in mid-August.

Nussica and Eva are based in Hong Kong. They manage charity social enterprise“Innovation Design Life Education Flowers Museum”.

Their purpose is to aim for the self-reliance of Nepali women who were attacked by Large Earthquake in 2015, and they are working to teach skills and provide opportunities of jobs for Nepali women.

Ebisuya is a reformed private lodging inn from an old private house constructed 130 years ago. Toshiyuki Mizoi who is former employee of a company began to manage it with his wife Keiko. He was interested in the management of a small inn since he was young.

On one corner of the first floor, there is a weaving atelier “Hi-de”. Mizoi’s second son Hidetaka teaches weaving. And it is possible for visitors to experience“SAORIORI Weaving”.

For Nussica, encounter with SAORIORI Weaving was in April last year. She visited for sightseeing and stayed at Ebisuya with her parents. She became attracted by SAORIORI Weaving because of its various colors and simple texture. And anyone can easily start weaving.

She met the weaving skills during her stay. These skills will connect with the self-reliance support activities for Nepali women.

Nussica and Eva learned from teachers including Hidetaka.

Nussica says with passion“We hope to transfer the weaving skills to women and lead to their economic self-reliance in Nepal.”
